Located in the western-central part of central Germany, approximatively one driving hour from Frankfurt international airport, Marburg University Hospital serves a rather rural area of the German federal state of Hesse. The medical faculty is part of Philipps University Marburg, which, founded in 1527 is the eldest Protestant University with continued teaching activity worldwide. Thus, Marburg, though pretty small, is proud of its ambience as a cosy students’ town rich in historical and university tradition.
Being responsible for the maxillofacial care of the region and as part of the regional trauma and head and neck tumour centres, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery covers the range of oral and cranio-maxillofacial surgery, with special emphasis on:
The clinic is well known for its expertise in maxillofacial traumatology (with special expertise in condylar and orbital traumatology) and TMJ surgery (minimally invasive and open surgery) and thus receives supra-regional referrals.
The Department of OMFS also maintains a close relationship with the dental school of Marburg regarding dentoalveolar surgery, implantology, orthognathics and functional therapy of TMJ disorders.
The joint University Hospitals of Gießen and Marburg, UKGM GmbH, rank as the third largest among the German University Hospitals, with craniofacial surgery being a complementary focus of the neighbouring University Hospital of campus Gießen.
The Department of OMFS campus Marburg treats around 980 inpatients and 3.500 outpatients per year, with an average of around 1.000 surgical interventions performed under general anaesthesia and more than 1.000 in local anaesthesia.
The Department of OMFS offers various special consultations for cranio-maxillofacial outpatients with a focus on TMJ disorders, orthognathics and oncology, being part of the certified interdisciplinary centre for head & neck oncology
Being committed to provide the best level of patient care the team of the OMFS department closely cooperates with the medical specialties of the University Hospital Marburg and Gießen, especially trauma surgery, neurosurgery, ENT, ophthalmology, dermatology, paediatrics, anaesthesiology and pain therapy, pathology and the dental specialties of the dental school as partners of the local multidisciplinary cleft-palate team.
