The cantonal hospital of Winterthur is one of the largest orthopaedic and trauma centers in Switzerland serving a population of approximately 350,000. It is a level 1 trauma center and one of six top level Swiss orthopaedic teaching hospitals.

Dr. med. Martin Wiewiorski is the head of the foot and ankle unit, consisting of three consultants and one resident. The focus of his clinical work is:

  • sport related injuries
  • posttraumatic
  • arthritic conditions of the foot and ankle.

The team’s philosophy is to treat conditions, especially deformities of the forefoot and midfoot, by minimal-invasive percutaneous surgery, or by combination of open and percutaneous procedures (hybrid surgery). Osteochondral injuries, tendon lesion and instabilities around the ankle joint can be treated by arthroscopical procedures, or in combination with small open incisions.

Dr. Wiewiorski is member of the International Society for Cartilage Repair of the Ankle (ISCRA), a committee dedicated to all aspects of cartilage repair in the ankle joint and creating evidence-based guidelines developed in a Delphi consensus process.
