Laketown Orthopaedic Hospital was established in 2017 to support patients with joint disorders of the lower extremities. The hospital was founded by Dr. Kensuke Yasumura, a former Associate Professor at Dokkyo Medical University. It is located near the Dokkyo Medical University Saitama Medical Center, adjacent to a large shopping mall in Koshigaya City. Koshigaya lies in the northern suburbs of Tokyo, approximately 45 minutes from the Ginza district by subway. The hospital serves a population of over one million residents in the surrounding area.
In 2021, Professor Satoru Ozeki—Immediate Past President of the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Foot and former Professor and Chair of the First Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Dokkyo Medical University Saitama Medical Center—joined the hospital to establish the Foot and Ankle Research Center. He has trained numerous fellows from across Asia seeking to advance their knowledge in foot and ankle surgery. Additionally, Dr. Masato Ogawa, a consultant at the Saitama Medical Center, joined the team as a specialist in sports medicine.
In 2025, the hospital inaugurated the Satoru Ozeki Memorial Laboratory of Innovative Foot and Ankle Surgery, a specialized treatment center within Laketown Orthopaedic Hospital dedicated to advanced foot care.
Building on Professor Ozeki’s legacy, the hospital continues to provide highly specialized care under the leadership of Dr. Yuki Tochigi, Director and board member of the Japanese Society of Foot Surgery. The medical team also includes Vice Director Dr. Masato Ogawa and Dr. Risa Matsumoto, a council member of the same society. Together, they uphold the values of orthopedic excellence and the refined expertise of foot surgery, delivering care with sincerity and professionalism.
The clinic focuses on individualized foot care, combining orthopedic knowledge with advanced surgical techniques. Led by top members of the Japanese Society for Foot Surgery, the team emphasizes accurate diagnosis and prioritizes conservative treatments such as medication, rehabilitation, and orthotic therapy. Surgical intervention is considered only when non-invasive methods prove insufficient. Patients benefit from a collaborative and personalized approach to identifying the most appropriate treatment.
For future fellows, the hospital offers outstanding opportunities to gain hands-on experience in the advanced treatment of sports injuries, including arthroscopic Broström procedures, minimally invasive anatomical ligament reconstruction using hamstring tendons, and osteochondral grafting for osteochondral lesions of the talus (OCLT). Trainees will also gain exposure to surgical management of arthritic conditions of the hindfoot and midfoot, as well as forefoot deformities such as hallux valgus and Freiberg disease. In addition, the hospital provides care for pediatric conditions such as clubfoot and vertical talus.
We look forward to welcoming future fellows to our institution. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
