The IBRA REC Grants are awarded by the IBRA Research & Education Committees (RECs). Each grant
supports a predefined research project and aims to address clinically relevant questions within the
respective specialty.
Scope of supported projects
The following REC‑specific research projects are supported:
Upper Limb
- Delphi study - Distal ulna fractures – IBRA consensus on treatment
- Key questions include if and when to operate (conservative vs. ORIF), surgical approach, implant
choice, and immobilisation strategy
- Despite its clinical relevance, no Delphi consensus currently exists for distal ulna fractures
- Establishing such a consensus would help guide clinical decision‑making
Lower Limb
- Case series / retrospective study - Optimal management of Wagstaff and Chaput fragments in
ankle fractures
- These fragments are critical indicators of syndesmotic injury and ankle stability. Inadequate
treatment can result in malreduction, persistent instability, and poor functional outcomes
- Given the limited literature and the emergence of new implant designs, IBRA is interested in
documenting the latest advances
Craniomaxillofacial (CMF)
- Delphi study - Treatment algorithm for orbital floor fractures and management of complications
- A wide range of treatment options exists, including PDS foil, titanium meshes, and patient‑specific
implants
- No established Delphi consensus currently defines a standardised treatment algorithm
- Such a study would provide valuable guidance
Grant structure
- One grant per IBRA REC will be awarded
- Funding per grant: CHF 20,000
- Each grant is awarded in full to a single project
Eligibility
The IBRA REC Grants are exclusively open to IBRA Full and Premium Members.
