Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the UK. Thomas Addison, Thomas Hodgkin, Richard Bright and Alfred Poland are among a number of other eminent physicians and surgeons who worked at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals. Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is part of King’s Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC), a collaboration between King’s College London (KCL), Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trusts. King’s is the largest centre for the education of doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals in Europe. Within the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, the King’s College London GKT School of Medical Education is responsible for the education and training of medical students.
The Department of Orthopaedics of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is one of London's leading orthopaedic departments and a centre of excellence, offering the full range of specialist Orthopaedic services. The Department of Orthopaedics is also a member of the Specialist Orthopaedic Alliance.
In 2020, Guy’s and St Thomas’ multidisciplinary Hand Unit was founded, including the Orthopaedic and Plastic Hand Surgery and the Hand Therapy teams. Mr Garagnani and Dr Sandford, Consultant Hand Therapist, were appointed the first joint Leads of the GSTT Hand Unit.
As a tertiary referral centre, the whole range of hand, wrist and upper limb disorders are assessed and treated at Guy’s and St Thomas’.
Furthermore, Mr Garagnani has also founded and leads jointly with the Consultant Clinical Geneticist Dr Holder a highly specialised Congenital Upper Limb and Hand Anomalies Clinic (CULHA) at St Thomas’ Hospital. This is the only multidisciplinary genetics – hand surgery clinic of its kind in London. Paediatric and adult patients with complex congenital limb anomalies are assessed and treated by a multidisciplinary team that also includes Hand Therapists and Occupational Therapists.

Both Centres offer specialist experience in upper limb surgery but with a focus on Hand surgery at Guy's and St Thomas' and Elbow surgery at Wrightington. |
