Overview:
The Handzentrum Pratteln (Handzentrum Nordwestschweiz AG) is a dedicated center for the comprehensive management of disorders and injuries of the hand and upper extremity. The center integrates diagnostics, surgery, hand therapy, and rehabilitation under one roof, ensuring continuity of care and efficient patient pathways.
Opened in February 2025, the facility was established to deliver state-of-the-art hand and peripheral nerve surgery in a modern and accessible setting.

- Hand and reconstructive surgery
- Peripheral nerve surgery
- Microsurgery
- Trauma management (acute and chronic sequelae)
- Prosthetic joint replacement (hand and wrist) including patient specific treatment and carpal bone replacement (Scaphoid, Lunate)
- Conservative and rehabilitative therapies
- Forensic and expert medical assessments (SIM-certified)
Clinical Exposure
Fellows gain comprehensive exposure to:
- Diagnostic work-up including imaging (X-ray, Ultrasound, CT/MRI via partner clinics)
- Outpatient and day-case surgical procedures in an integrated OP Class I unit
- Complex procedures in Partner Clinic Merian Iselin in Basel
- Postoperative care and rehabilitation in close collaboration with in-house hand therapists
- Interdisciplinary case discussions and complex reconstructions
Research Opportunities
The fellowship encourages participation in clinical research projects in hand and wrist surgery with focus on patient specific treatment and 3D-printing. Fellows have the opportunity to collaborate with the directors on academic publications, presentations, and teaching activities as well as in the research group of the University of Basel.
