The Unit is on full-day call available 24/7 for limb accidents and microsurgery emergency.
A thriving part of the University of Verona, the Unit combines its common clinical routine with more complicated surgical emergencies, upper limb trauma cases and management of congenital deformities. Its highly qualified medical and nursing staff is constantly in touch with National and International Scientific Societies related to Hand and Microsurgery. The Hand Team is composed by the director, 6 staffs members, 1 or 2 Hand Fellows, 2 Orthopaedic Resident and 1 Plastic Surgeon Resident. The medical staff of the Department of Hand Surgery offer expertise in many surgical fields including:

  • Microsurgery
  • Arthroscopy
  • Congenital Deformity
  • Elbow Surgery.

 The Unit provides care for:

  • acute and late reconstruction of complex hand and upper limb trauma
  • fracture care, non unions and mal-unions
  • septic conditions of the bone and joints

The standards of training and clinical practice of all specialists of the Unit are applied to every emergency and elective hand procedure. Electronic records of the performed procedure with pictures taken during the pre-, intra-, and post-operative phase enable us to study the outcome of surgery improving the quality standards of the Unit. The Unit also promotes a life-long learning program including courses, seminars and symposia. Training is offered to residents in Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery. We offer a highly specialized out-patient clinic for conditions requiring deeper care or a multidisciplinary approach, such as paediatric and congenital malformations and rheumatoid upper limb pathologies. Twice a month one operating theatre is dedicated to congenital malformations and paediatric post-traumatic deformities.
A team of skilled Physiotherapists supports the Unit in the treatment of the patients.
Hospitalized patients find comfortable en-suite double rooms with air-conditioning.

Recently papers published by the Unit are noticeable in Pub Med, Scopus and Research Gate using Corain M.
