The Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) is one of the three main teaching hospitals of Seoul National University, College of Medicine, where nearly all of our staff physicians serve on the teaching faculty. The opening of the SNUBH in 2003 was a milestone in the history of Korean medical care and medical education. The 1,360-bed medical center, located at the southern suburb of Seoul, offers sophisticated cutting edge diagnostic and therapeutic care in every specialty of medicine and surgery. Since the hospital’s founding, SNUBH has been committed to training and mentoring the next generation of national and international leaders in medicine and science, providing opportunities for physicians, nurses and health professionals.

As the main teaching hospital of the Seoul National University Medical School, SNUBH has long been a leader in medical research. SNUBH conducts one of the most active hospital-based research programs in Korea. The hospital's research funding from public and private sectors drives discoveries and breakthroughs in basic and clinical research, which eventually translate into improved treatment modalities for our patient care.

The department of orthopedic surgery at SNUBH operates a variety of specialized clinics based on the comprehensive research of bones, joints, nerves and muscular diseases, providing customized treatments that suit the individual characteristics of patients. Researches and achievements in treatments in the cerebral palsy/pediatric orthopedics, hip joint diseases, intractable cervical spinal diseases, knee joint and sports medicine, shoulder joint, bone and soft tissue tumor, and hand diseases/microsurgery as well as fine reconstructing field of the hands by the specialized medical staff are recognized for their great scholastic value in and out of the country.

Dr. Hyun-Sik Gong is in charge of hand and elbow division in the department of orthopedic surgery. In particular, he is interested in neuromuscular problems of the hand and upper extremity, including 1) peripheral nerve disease and tendon reconstruction after nerve injuries, and 2) upper extremity surgery for cerebral palsy and tetraplegia after cervical injuries. He is also an expert in trauma surgeries, mainly in wrist and elbow injuries. Common conditions that he treats are peripheral nerve and tendon diseases, wrist and elbow complex trauma, and congenital hand anomalies.
