The Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Santiago was founded in 1999. It is made up of more than 5,500 professionals and 1,400 beds.
The Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology service has 45 attending physicians and 10 residents, directed by Professor José Ramón Caeiro Rey.
Our Upper Extremity department is formed by 4 specialists coordinated by Professor Sergio Pombo covering the following treatments:
- Hand, wrist and elbow traumas
- Compression and peripheral nerve injuries
- Arthroscopic wrist surgery
- Carpal and elbow instabilities
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Deformities
- Post-traumatic corrections
The orthopedic and traumatology surgery service trains 2 COT resident interns per year, and we receive resident physicians from other hospitals to complete training rotations in different units (shoulder, hand, spine, etc.).
We also participate as professors in the area of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology at the University of Santiago de Compostela in doctoral and master courses related to our specialty.
