The new President of International Bone Research Association (IBRA): Prof. Dr. Dr. Victor Valderrabano, MD PhD
The International Bone Research Association IBRA is pleased to announce the election of Prof. Dr. Dr. Victor Valderrabano as its new President. Professor Valderrabano, an internationally highly recognized Orthopaedic Trauma surgeon, brings a wealth of expertise and a remarkable career dedicated to musculoskeletal medicine, education, and research. He served IBRA being for years an active and estimated Board Member of Directors and Chairman of the Lower Limb IBRA Section.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Victor Valderrabano is renowned for his specialization in reconstructive surgery, sports orthopaedics, osteoarthritis surgery of the lower extremity and Foot & Ankle. He studied Human Medicine at the University of Zurich/Switzerland, where he earned his Doctorate in Medicine, and later completed a second PhD in Biomechanics and Osteoarthritis research at the University of Calgary/Canada. His extensive orthopaedic training also includes a residency and fellowship program at the Spital of Davos/Switzerland, the Orthopaedic Department of the University Hospital of Basel/Switzerland, and the Orthopaedic Department of the University of Calgary/Canada. Professor Valderrabano was appointed Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Basel in 2006, and by 2009, he was named Full Professor of Orthopedic and Traumatological Surgery at the University of Basel. From 2009 to 2014, he served as Chairman of the Orthopedic Department at the University Hospital Basel. Since 2015, he has been leading the renounced  SWISS ORTHO CENTER Clinic in Basel and a leading Surgeon of the Orthopaedic Section of the Swiss Hospital Group Swiss Medical Network and its scientific Genolier Innovation Network.
 
On a research level, Professor Valderrabano has published numerous scientific articles (Pubmed Papers: 236; h-index: 63), book chapters, and books. Further, he was honored by a significant number of international Research Awards contributing significantly to the fields of Foot and Ankle Orthopaedics, osteoarthritis, arthroplasty, and sports medicine. 

On a society activity level, beside being an active member in many societies, Professor Valderrabano was President of the following medical societies: German-Swiss-Austrian Sports Orthopaedics Society GOTS, Swiss Foot & Ankle Society SFAS. Further, Professor Valderrabano is current President of the Research Foundation of the European Foot & Ankle Society EFAS.
 
As President of IBRA, Professor Valderrabano is an unique and valuable leader to further develop the association's mission of promoting excellence in bone research and clinical practice in the next years. His effort and vision will undoubtedly drive the organization to new heights, fostering innovation and collaboration within the global medical community.
 
In addition to Professor Valderrabano's election, IBRA is excited to announce the new Heads of the Research & Education Committees for the 2024-2027 term:
 
Prof. Dr. Dr. Christian Freudlsperger has been elected as the Chairman of the Research & Education Committee Head. Prof. Freudlsperger is based at Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand, where he specializes in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
 
Prof. Dr. Adam Watts has been elected as the REC Chairman for Upper Limbs. Prof. Watts serves at Wrightington Hospital in the UK.
 
Prof. Dr. Mario Ulises Herrera Perez has been elected as the REC Chairman for Lower Limbs. Prof. Herrera Perez is affiliated with the Hospital Universitario de Canarias in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, where he specializes in Traumatology and Orthopedics.
  
IBRA congratulates Prof. Dr. Dr. Victor Valderrabano and the newly elected Heads of the Research & Education Committees. We look forward to their contributions and leadership in advancing bone research and surgical education globally.
