With profound sadness and deep sorrow, we have learned of the sudden and unexpected passing of our esteemed member, Professor Dr. med. Christina Stukenborg-Colsman. She left us far too soon in March 2025. Her passing leaves a tremendous void in the entire IBRA community and the field of orthopedic surgery worldwide.
Professor Stukenborg-Colsman was an extraordinary educator and a pioneering surgeon, particularly in the field of foot and ankle surgery. Her dedication, expertise, and passion helped shape the discipline, and she was instrumental in advancing surgical education and training. She led and acted as faculty on countless IBRA educational courses and events, leaving a lasting impact on the professional development of numerous surgeons across the globe.
As the director of the IBRA Training Center in Hannover, she mentored and guided many IBRA scholars, sharing her profound knowledge and clinical skills with the next generation of specialists. Her tireless commitment to the IBRA mission made her one of our most valued faculty members, a respected representative of our organization, and a cherished colleague.
Beyond her remarkable professional achievements, Christina Stukenborg-Colsman was known for her warmth and accessibility. Her kindness, openness, and sense of humor made her not only a brilliant educator but also a truly inspiring human being.
Her loss is deeply felt, but her legacy will endure in the many lives she touched and the knowledge she imparted. Our thoughts are with her family, her colleagues, and her team in this difficult time.
Today, we pause to honor those who have made an extraordinary contribution to medical science through their final act of generosity. At our Annual Memorial Ceremony in Basel, we remember the individuals who chose to donate their bodies to medicine. Their final gift enables young surgeons to develop essential skills and experienced physicians to master new techniques, ultimately benefiting thousands of patients. We handle this responsibility with the utmost respect and dignity, ensuring that all donors receive appropriate cremation and final rest at the cemetery.
We are excited to announce the release of Forefoot Disorders: Basic Considerations and Treatment Strategies, a new, comprehensive guide created in collaboration with IBRA, our esteemed members and Karger Publishing.
